What to do
Common dental emergencies
Toothache
Rinse with warm water and gently floss to clear anything caught between your teeth. A cold compress on your cheek can ease swelling.
Chipped or broken tooth
Save any pieces, rinse your mouth with warm water and use a cold compress to keep swelling down.
Knocked-out tooth
Hold the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently, and keep it in milk or tucked in your cheek until you reach us.
Lost filling or crown
Keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on that side until we can see you.
Swelling or infection
Swelling in your gums or face can mean an infection. Call us so we can look at it.
If you have trouble breathing or swallowing, or swelling that is spreading, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
